It will help you burn more calories than most other exercises: The high-intensity of the workout means that your body needs much more oxygen during the workout. This creates a temporary oxygen shortage in your body. Due to this, your body takes in more oxygen during the recovery interval. This Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption or EPOC, as it is commonly known, will help burn more calories and fat than any of your regular aerobic or steady-state workouts.  HIIT also helps stimulate production of human growth hormone (HGH) in your body. HGH not only facilitates faster burning of calories but also slows down the aging process. That benefit by itself should motivate you to take up HIIT. Studies have shown that HGH levels can go by up to 450 percent during the 24 hours after an HIIT routine.

 

 It improves your endurance and keeps your heart healthy: Once you start pushing into the anaerobic zone, your body can produce some pretty impressive results. A study conducted in 2006 showed that after 8 weeks of high intensity HIIT workouts, subjects could cycle twice as long as they could before, maintaining the same pace.

 

It will help you lose weight while improving your muscle mass:  Most of your regular weight loss plans lead to some amount of loss of muscle mass as well –whether it is dieting or even cardio. For dieters, the best way to preserve their muscles is through HIIT workouts or weight training. HIIT ensures that most of the weight loss happens through fat loss.

 

It can be fun and challenging at the same time:  Like I mentioned earlier, HIIT is only for people who are serious about achieving their weight loss or fitness goals. This is not for armchair fitness enthusiasts. It will be a short intense circuit and you will be working hard the whole time. But it can also be quite fun, challenging and de-stressing. There is no way you will get bored doing an HIIT circuit.
