One challenge a year for your mind body and soul, I’ve set this for myself and my clients as it works wonders, if you haven’t already check out the power of a challenge blog to see why.
It’s now March 2017 and it’ s been a while since I had the idea of challenging myself to enter the Three Peaks Challenge. Days however turned to weeks, weeks to months and months into a year, where did the time go! Well, to cut a long story short, a casual comment made in February: ‘We should do the Three Peaks Challenge,’ has resulted in a date being set for May 6th 2017, conquering the tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales is now on the horizon. Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon are now names that we will become very familiar with.
The classic Three Peaks Challenge tests your upper limits physically and mentally starting at the foot of Ben Nevis in the Scottish highlands at 4,409 ft then Scafell Pike in the Lake District at 3,206 ft and finally Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales at 3,560 ft, all in just 24 hours. Fortunately we all have a good baseline of fitness, however the challenge is no easy feat and training will now be top priority as we have 9 weeks to get ready.
I’ve kicked things off with designing a programme that consists of the exercises that will strengthen the very muscles put under constant demand on the day, coupling that with as much cardio endurance and incline hiking mileage as possible, giving us the best chance of a successful, injury-free Challenge.
